Dr. Hartnett’s team offers a number of other specialty services to our patients including diagnostic salivary testing, innovative gum treatments and oral cancer screenings truly making us a Complete Health Dentistry practice.
Many of the services you’ll see listed here are not offered at every dental practice so be sure to browse our service selection and contact us with specific questions or to schedule a time to talk about one of our specialty services.
Our additional services include:
Oral Cancer Screening with Oral ID
Oral ID fluorescence technology is used during our oral cancer screenings. It is a blue light that the Dentist can shine in the patient’s mouth to help identify oral cancer, pre-cancer, and other abnormal lesions at an earlier stage, thus saving lives.
Salivary testing also referred to as Oral DNA and Oral HPV Testing, helps medical and dental professionals in all healthcare settings and their patients use salivary diagnostics to obtain precise evidence about periodontal disease and oral HPV, allowing more accurate diagnosis and, in the case of periodontal disease, more effective treatment.
At Dr. Hartnett’s office, we offer leading-edge conservative periodontal treatments like Perio Protect trays to improve the health of your gums. These customized trays are designed to fit over your teeth and deliver oxygen deep into the gum pockets around your teeth. It is in these deep pockets that harmful bacteria live and cause a chronic infection in your mouth. The presence of these bacteria cause your body to launch an inflammatory response targeted at the infection in your gums. The effects of this inflammatory response, however, are widespread throughout your body. With Perio Protrect trays, and other periodontal treatments, we can destroy the bacteria causing the inflammatory response, which promotes a healing environment where the body is allowed to heal itself.
Arestin is another weapon we have in our arsenal to fight periodontal disease. This periodontal treatment is the use of antibiotics in deep pockets. In order to ensure a healthy mouth as well as overall health the gum tissue that encircles each tooth must be healthy and free from infection (by harmful bacteria). When this gum tissue becomes infected, the gum tissue around the tooth gets destroyed. This results in a deep pocket around the tooth where even more harmful bacteria can grow and cause even more damage. If you have deep pockets around your teeth, periodontal antibiotics may be the best option for curing this infection. These antibiotics fix themselves to the tissue lining of the pocket, and through time-release technology, release the antibiotic (minocycline) to kill the bacteria. Once the bacteria are eliminated, the inside of the deep pocket becomes a healthy environment – one in which your body can begin the healing process.
